Separately, a Phytomedicine study on embryonic resveratrol exposure in an insect model found the compound sped up early development but shortened adult lifespan, a reminder that dose and life stage change the story completely.

Neither study was run in dogs, and neither speaks to muscle mass directly. I bring them up because a publication that gets excited about an ingredient owes the reader the same candor it would want from a dog food label: name what’s actually been shown, and don’t round early cellular research up into a muscle claim it hasn’t earned.

Reading the Bag Like You Mean It

By the time a dog is losing weight without an obvious cause — a pattern worth reading about separately if a senior dog is losing weight while eating normally — the muscle conversation has usually moved from prevention to management, and that’s a vet-exam conversation, not a supplement-aisle one.
